Wolverine passed 10 million downloads

Right now things are a bit of a blur just because of the high rate of incoming GitHub traffic we get for the Critter Stack, with Wolverine being the most common recipient of new issues, community pull requests, and JasperFx client requests.

It’s nice to occasionally take a minute and celebrate the project wins whenever they come, and this weekend it’s Wolverine crossing the 10 million download mark (Nuget download statistics are a bit broken right now, but in at least one view Wolverine has 10.2+ M right now).

If you’re not familiar with it, Wolverine is essentially a server side application framework for .NET with a very strong emphasis on low code ceremony, high testability, performance, and (sigh) now AI friendliness. Along the way, Wolverine has answers for usage as:

  • an asynchronous messaging tool that supports more messaging broker options than any other in .NET as well as having first class options for SignalR or messaging via HTTP or gRPC
  • an alternative HTTP or gRPC endpoint programming model that’s particularly useful because of Wolverine’s transactional outbox and messaging
  • if you absolutely have to, you can use Wolverine as “just” a Mediator tool

Thank you to all of the other Critter Stack core team members, Oskar & Corey for being there in the beginning, and the very vibrant Wolverine community for making so many contributions and giving the feedback it takes to make a tool like Wolverine.

All in all, it’s particularly gratifying to me because Wolverine has been such a slow burn project for almost a decade (more so if I count it as the successor project to FubuMVC / FubuTransportation) that I had completely given up on during the pandemic before growing into a tool that collects over a million downloads a month this year.
